Bresse chicken breeder in Ontario
Honeycomb Poultry Patch raises and selectively breeds Bresse chickens in Carrying Place, Prince Edward County. Our goal is straightforward: build a strong Ontario flock from multiple bloodlines, keep careful records and retain only the birds that best represent the health, structure and character we want in the next generation.
We are a small farm, not a hatchery. Alicia personally runs the breeding program and makes every breeding decision. Hatching eggs and pullets are offered in limited quantities when available and come with lineage paperwork from her breeding records.

Not a hatchery. One dedicated breeder.
Honeycomb Poultry Patch is not a commercial hatchery. Our Bresse program is run by Alicia, and Alicia alone. She plans the pairings, manages the breeding groups, keeps the lineage records, watches the birds develop, and decides which birds meet the standard to remain in the program.
Because one person is responsible for the complete program, the birds are not anonymous inventory moving through a production system. Alicia knows the individual birds, their families, their strengths and the faults that must not be carried forward. Our numbers are intentionally limited so that this level of attention is possible.
Ethical breeding means a good life beyond the breeding pen
Our birds live on several acres of open pasture. They are brought into separate breeding groups only during the breeding and hatching season, when accurate parentage and lineage records require controlled pairings.
When the breeding season is finished, the birds are released back onto open pasture with the rest of the flock. They return to roaming, scratching, foraging, dust bathing and living as chickens should. Their value to us is not limited to the weeks when they are producing hatching eggs.
That is what ethical breeding means at Honeycomb Poultry Patch. We care about the quality of the next generation, but we care just as much about the daily life of the birds creating it. It is not only about how our animals breed. It is about how they live when they are not at work.
Our Ontario Bresse breeding program
Our program is being developed from several distinct Canadian sources. The flock currently includes bloodlines originating in British Columbia and Ontario. In 2026 we are adding hatching eggs from Applemeadow Canadian Bresse in the Woodstock area to broaden that genetic base further.
Applemeadow Canadian Bresse is an established Southern Ontario breeding program with its own access to imported French genetics. We will record these birds as a distinct Canadian line within our program, and we describe our own birds accurately as Bresse raised and selected in Canada. What matters to us is not a grand claim on a label. It is the work done here, generation after generation, to build a healthy and dependable flock.
New genetics are not simply mixed into the flock and forgotten. Each source is recorded, evaluated and used deliberately. Maintaining distinct lines gives us more options when planning future pairings and helps us avoid relying too heavily on one small family of birds.
Selection before sales
We actively select our breeding birds. Every generation is assessed, and only the best candidates are retained for the breeding pens. Leg bands and breeding records help us track parentage and avoid close pairings.
We look for sound feet and toes, clean legs, correct body structure, good comb development, healthy growth and the overall character expected from a quality Bresse bird. Birds with crooked toes, feathered legs, poor comb structure, incorrect body type, unwanted colouring or other faults are removed from the breeding program.
Culling in a breeding program means making an honest decision about which birds should reproduce. Not every healthy chicken belongs in a breeding pen. Keeping only the strongest examples is how a line improves instead of slowly losing quality.
Lineage paperwork with every hatching egg and pullet sale
Every sale of hatching eggs or pullets from our breeding program includes lineage paperwork. For each sale, the paperwork identifies the breeding group and records the sire, dam, and original breeder or bloodline source behind the parents.
This gives buyers a clear record to keep with their flock. It also makes future breeding decisions easier because the family background is not left to memory or guesswork. As the Applemeadow Canadian Bresse line enters our program, those birds and their descendants will be identified separately in the same records.
Why multiple bloodlines matter
A breeder cannot improve a flock by looking at colour alone. Lasting success also depends on vigour, fertility, growth, sound structure, and sensible mating choices. Multiple bloodlines give us room to make those choices without repeatedly pairing close relatives.
Our British Columbia line, existing Ontario line, and incoming Applemeadow Canadian Bresse line from the Woodstock area are the foundation. From there, the responsibility is ours. We evaluate how the birds grow, how they reproduce, and what they produce in the following generation. The name of a source may open the door, but ongoing selection determines the quality of the flock.
Finding Bresse chickens in Southern Ontario
Honeycomb Poultry Patch is located at 3365 County Road 3 in Carrying Place, between Prince Edward County and Quinte West. Ontario customers can contact us about local availability and pickup arrangements. Please message before travelling because availability changes with the season, laying rate and the needs of our own breeding program.
We are not a large hatchery carrying unlimited inventory. Quantities are intentionally limited while the program grows. That allows us to keep better records, watch the young birds develop and make careful decisions about which birds stay in the breeding flock.
Bresse hatching eggs
Our listed price is $60 per dozen, plus packaging and actual shipping. We currently ship smaller quantities outside Ontario only. Ontario customers can contact us directly to discuss local availability and arrangements.
Eggs are packed carefully, but shipping conditions and incubation are outside our control. Fertility is monitored within our breeding program, but no breeder can guarantee the handling a parcel receives or the conditions inside another person’s incubator. For that reason, hatch rates cannot be guaranteed.
What buyers can expect from us
We will tell you what is available, where the birds or eggs came from within our program, and what arrangements are practical. We do not promise perfection from every chick. Genetics involve variation, and honest breeding means evaluating every new generation rather than pretending every bird is breeding quality.
If you are building your own Bresse flock, tell us your location, what stock you already have and whether you are looking for hatching eggs or pullets. That information helps us give you a useful answer and avoid suggesting a pairing that does not make sense.
